In too many minds a trip to Florida necessarily entails a stay in South Beach, or at very least the greater Miami area. But old Florida hands know the pleasures of the Gulf side, particularly Naples, which is like a parallel-world Miami: plenty of white sand and Art Deco architecture, but facing the sunset rather than the sunrise, and with a scene that’s as mellow and tranquil as the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
And the Edgewater Beach Hotel does the rest of Naples one better — it’s an all-suite property, and you can add kitchens with a large refrigerator and microwave to the fairly comprehensive list of comforts. The look is sunny and subtly contemporary, understatedly upscale, with antique-style furnishings and rich mosaic tile work. Balconies face out to sea, and it’s just steps from the pool deck to the white sands and turquoise waters of the beach.
The Edgewater Beach keeps things quiet with a very selective list of services — just a poolside bar and a restaurant and lounge. But for the five-star treatment you’re referred to the Naples Grande Beach Resort, the sister property, whose spa, steak house, and championship golf club are open to Edgewater Beach guests.
